Brief Guide on How to Apply for NDIS Funding
When one of our dearest participants, Jim, started this NDIS journey with us, he wanted to know how to apply for NDIS funding. He had been very confused and wished that, unlike others who did not help him, Gencare would make sure his plan had all the information he needed. Just like him, there are so many participants out there looking for similar guidance, so for those, just read on the blog to know more.
What do I Need to Apply for NDIS Funding?
While a lot think that there is an extra requirement for funding other than the plan, the basic funding actually includes being eligible for NDIS. Your plan might cover activities such as daily living, therapy services, or long-term housing.
There are some other inclusions for special cases like SDA with more complex needs that might require you to want more funding.
How to Get NDIS Funding? Step by Step!
To get NDIS Funding, there are a few checkboxes you should go through. In these steps, you might be able to get a better understanding. In case there is any other doubt, you can always contact Gencare, and we will help you out! We have helped a lot of participants with NDIS plan management in Melbourne and other cities and suburbs. Get things done easily with us!
Step 1: Are you eligible?
The very first step would be to check your eligibility. Now what are those? You can check these in detail by giving us a call or going through the NDIA website, but a quick look is here:
Age: You must be under 65 years old when applying.
Residency: You need to be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
Disability Requirements: You must have a permanent or significant disability that affects your life on a daily basis and normal functioning.
Step 2: You will need to show evidence!
You cannot claim the funding if you do not show any evidence. When you apply for NDIS funding, documentation is important. The NDIS needs medical and professional evidence to understand your disability and how it impacts your daily life.
These documents may include:
- Reports from your GP, psychologist, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist
- Medical assessments showing your diagnosis
- Letters as proof of how your disability affects your independence or participation
- Proof of residency and identity
Gencare will help you out if you feel your documents are not adding up. All you need to do is reach out to us, and we are here for you!
Step 3: Submitting the NDIS Access Request Form
The NDIS request form needs to be submitted in order to apply for NDIS funding. Now, while most of the things are directly done, even the NDIA contacts your NDIS partner for any further involvement. You can do the following:
- Download the NDIS Access Request Form, on your computer, print it out, and mail it to PO Box 700, Canberra, ACT 2601 with supporting information.
- Contact the NDIA on 1800 800 110 and ask us for an NDIS Access Request Form. If you want Gencare to help you out, then we can mail or email it to you.
- Visit an NDIS office and ask for a copy of the NDIS Access Request Form. They can print it out for you, and you can email or mail it to us with supporting information.
Step 4: The Planning Meeting
If your application is approved, congratulations! You’ve made it to the planning stage — where things get exciting.
An NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) will meet with you to discuss your needs, preferences, and goals. At Gencare, we have helped many of our participants get their plans. This conversation helps shape your NDIS plan, including:
- What support do you receive?
- How much funding do you get?
- Who will manage your plan (you, a plan manager, or the NDIA)
Mistakes to Avoid When Filling Out NDIS Application Form
As your service provider, Gencare will make sure that there is no mistake in your NDIS application form. However, sometimes, the participants suffer rejections due to the following issues:
- Not providing enough medical evidence
- Forgetting to include detailed examples of how the disability affects daily life
- Skipping professional reports from therapists or doctors
- Not asking for help when filling out the Access Request Form
Keep in mind that doing all of it by yourself and making mistakes might cost your journey a lot of time and stress. Why go through that? Just give Gencare your worries and you can focus on living the life you want.
