Melton stopped being a town on the way to Ballarat some time ago, and the corridor that runs out through Melton West, Harkness and Cobblebank is now one of the fastest-growing places in the country. What that means practically is that the map is always slightly out of date, the distances are longer than they look, and services arrive later than the houses do.

Gencare runs three supported independent living homes along this corridor — at Melton, Cobblebank and Fraser Rise — and each of those pages is about that actual house, with what it has and what it does not. This page will not try to answer a housing question in general terms when a specific address does it better.
The rest is the ordinary work, and out here transport is rarely ordinary. The train reaches Melton and the estates spreading past it do not, so a plan that quietly assumes somebody can get themselves to an appointment tends to stop working in the second month. Our nearest base is at Fraser Rise, in the same council, and what we do not do is manage your plan — we are a provider, and saying so now saves you a phone call.

About the Fraser Rise baseIt is a base, not a shopfront, and it is not where support happens. Visits are by appointment and almost everything we do takes place at your address or in the community. We have not published a travel time either, because we have not measured one and a wrong number about somebody’s week is worse than no number at all.

Yes. Melton West is one of the localities our Fraser Rise base publishes as the area it serves, and it is on the coverage list for this page. If you previously landed on an older Melton West page, this is where it now points — deliberately, because sending you to a regional overview that never names your suburb is worse than useless.
The same way, but the rostering is harder and it is fair to know that. Out past Melton the streets are newer than the services, and the practical constraint is whether we have workers living within reach of you rather than whether we operate in the area. We would rather begin with fewer hours that actually happen than agree to a full roster that starts missing shifts in week three.

No. We are a registered provider, not a plan manager — under the NDIS those are separate roles, funded separately. We keep saying it plainly because people search for it, and finding out three phone calls later wastes your afternoon. A coordinator can help you find a plan manager and we take nothing for the referral.
